Sophia Willard Dana Ripley, 1803–1861

Sophia Dana Ripley was a Transcendentalist, member of the Transcendental Club, and, with her husband George Ripley, cofounder of Brook Farm.  She is best known for her unflagging efforts to promote the utopian community from its conception in 1840 to its collapse in 1847.  She was a dedicated participant in Margaret Fuller’s Conversations in the early 1840s and a contributor to the Dial.
